Titanium Welding Best Practices Guide
Guide to TIG MIG laser welding of titanium.
1. Pre-Weld Preparation
Clean to bright metal within 2 hours. Titanium-only tools. Acetone degrease no chlorinated solvents.
2. Shielding
Triple shield: torch 10-15 L/min trailing 15-25 L/min backing 5-10 L/min. 99.995% pure argon.
3. Weld Colour Guide
Silver excellent. Straw acceptable. Blue reject. Grey/White severe contamination.
4. Post-Weld Inspection
Visual dye penetrant ASTM E1417 radiography ASTM E1742 for critical joints.
